Perth Highland appoints two new Life Members at the AGM.
Gary Mackintosh and Phil Richardson became the 23rd and 24th Honorary Life Members of the Perth Highland Pipe Band at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 10 August 2005.
Gary has been with the band since 1985, but played his first turnout with us in 1982 while he was Pipe Major of the Scotch College Pipe Band. A very fine musician, Gary has held the position of Pipe Corporal and Pipe Sergeant, and has also been a long time committee member. His work for the band has been diligent, no more so than when he organised the travel and accommodation for the band's 2005 trip to the Maclean NSW Highland Gathering. Gary was proposed for Life Membership by George McClelland and seconded by Malcolm MacLean.
Phil came to the band in 1986 and since day one, he's been the life of any party. Always ready with a ripping yarn and a suspect joke or two, Phil's laugh is contagious. He's been a great ambassador for the band on its trips to Jakarta, and has brought back numerous gold medals from the tug of war competition at the Highland Gathering. Phil has always been at the front of the queue to put in the work (whether it's setting up a barbecue, setting up a drinks stall, or sitting in as the band's bus driver). On the band Committee, Phil has been Secretary for many years, an onerous task, and has done a tremendous job running the band business.
