Improvisation saves the day in Northam!
There was a tense start to our annual Avon Descent parade in Northam on Friday, 4th August 2006. Mike Hunter had travelled all the way from Baldivis to lead the parade as our senior Drum Major. The only problem was that Michael Scott was meant to bring the mace for him but forgot it.
There was an awkward moment in the carpark as Mike realised he had travelled all this way in vain, however a quick solution was found when Stuart McCormack borrowed a tent pole from the local State Emergency Services squad.
Mike proudly led the band and a large processession of vehicles and community groups down the parade route to the enthusiastic cheers and applause of the gathered crowd.
To our knowledge, nobody noticed!

The Northam parade was also the first turnout for new piper Casey Todhunter, who is the grandson of Life Member, former piper and past President, Tom Todhunter. |
